Bangladesh, Aug. 3 -- The measles virus driving Bangladesh's worst outbreak in recent years has not developed genetic changes that would allow it to evade protection offered by the existing vaccine, according to preliminary findings from an investigation by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).

The study, released on Sunday, found that the virus circulating in Bangladesh belongs to the globally recognised B3 genotype and that children who had received both recommended doses of the measles vaccine were less likely to test positive than those who were unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated.
