Bangladesh, Aug. 11 -- Members of Parliament will not be free to vote for a presidential candidate outside their own party's decision, Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam Moni said Tuesday, confirming that Article 70 of the Constitution remains in force for the upcoming presidential election and that any lawmaker who defies the party line will forfeit their parliamentary seat.
The Chief Whip made the remarks at a press briefing in the Jatiya Sangsad media centre, following a preparatory meeting on the presidential election attended by representatives of the ruling and opposition parties, Election Commission officials and the Parliament Secretariat.
