Dhaka, Aug. 9 -- Senior Jatiya Party leader Anisul Islam Mahmud has strongly criticized the recently held party council, alleging that it was organized with the intention of sidelining the party's current chairman GM Quader.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Anisul claimed the council lacked legitimacy and failed to represent the broader leadership of the party.

"This was not a representative council. It was convened to bypass and weaken GM Quader's leadership," said the former minister and Jatiya Party presidium member.
