Bangladesh, July 27 -- Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita on Sunday said genuine patriotism and corruption cannot coexist.

"A true patriot can never be corrupt. No meaningful work can be accomplished without love for the country," she said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing an orientation programme for first-year undergraduate students and a prize-giving ceremony for annual literary and cultural competitions at Government Debendra College in Manikganj.

Rita said former president Ziaur Rahman had taught people to love the country, while former prime minister Khaleda Zia had inspired them to stand against injustice.
