Dhaka, Dec. 27 -- The battle for parliamentary seats in Khulna has intensified as 33 prospective candidates from eight political parties collected nomination papers for six constituencies ahead of the upcoming national election.

According to election officials, the aspirants include 10 from the BNP, six from Jamaat-e-Islami, three each from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlish and the Jatiya Party, one from Jatiyatabadi Ganatantrik Andolan, one from Islamic Front-an alliance of a section of the Jatiya Party-and three independent candidates.
