Bangladesh, July 30 -- Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday said Myanmar has agreed to take back 5,000 Rohingya refugees currently living in Malaysia following diplomatic negotiations between the two countries.

He also said Myanmar had agreed to repatriate 300,000 Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh as part of a broader repatriation effort, according to The Star.

Speaking at a meeting with local voters in Chennah, Anwar stressed the importance of maintaining constructive ties with Myanmar, saying the agreement was reached through dialogue and careful diplomacy.

"They have now agreed to take back 5,000 Rohingya from Malaysia and 300,000 Rohingya from Bangladesh," he said.
