India, March 2 -- Mansoureh Khojasteh, the wife of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, has died from injuries sustained during Saturday's US-Israeli joint operation, according to Iranian state media. She was 79.

State broadcasts reported that Khojasteh succumbed to wounds inflicted in the same wave of attacks that killed her 86 year old husband besides her daughter, son-in-law and grandchild.

The reported death adds to the mounting toll from the strikes, which have already prompted region-wide protests and retaliation, heightening tensions across the Middle East.

Ayatollah Khamenei was assassinated on Saturday when Israeli warplanes dropped 30 bombs on his office/residence compound in Tehran.
