History remembers miracles.

The Quran speaks of Moses parting the sea, of Abraham walking through fire that bloomed like flowers, of Jesus ascending to the heavens.

Hindu texts tell of Krishna lifting a mountain on one finger, of Hanuman flying with an entire peak to save a life.

These stories share a common thread: God intervened.

The laws of nature bent, and the faithful were spared.

At Karbala, the opposite occurred.

The Euphrates flowed within sight, but Yazid's army blocked all paths to water. Imam Hussein dug a well inside his own tent. It came up dry.

The army closed in as the family went hungry and the children cried out for water.

One by one, Hussein's companions fell, the tents burned...
