Srinagar, Aug. 28 -- A new study published in the International Journal of Social Impact has found a high risk of pesticide exposure among households living close to apple orchards in Kashmir. Surveying 509 households across all 10 districts of the Valley, researchers found nearly 90% had no buffer zone separating homes from orchards, while many reported unsafe pesticide storage and disposal practices.
In this report, we explain what the findings mean, the potential risks of pesticide drift, and what residents, farmers and authorities can do to make orchard communities safer.
