Srinagar, May 24 -- Police on Sunday said the death of a 12-year-old girl from Galwanpora in Central Kashmir's Budgam district appears to be a prima facie case of rape and murder.
According to SSP Budgam Hariprasad K K, the girl was reported missing on the night of May 23, after which police launched extensive searches and registered an FIR. Her body was recovered the next morning around 200 metres from her home.
Police said tracker dogs have been deployed, CCTV footage is being scanned, and local suspects are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have appealed to the public not to circulate misinformation or reveal the identity of the minor victim.
