Srinagar, July 1 -- Iran has announced an elaborate, week-long funeral programme for the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in what officials describe as an unprecedented cross-border farewell spanning two countries and six of Shia Islam's holiest cities.The ceremonies, officially titled "The Send-off to Iran's Leader of Martyrs", will begin in Tehran on July 3, pass through the holy city of Qom, cross into Iraq for commemorative processions in Najaf and Karbala, and conclude with the burial in Mashhad in eastern Iran on July 9.
