Srinagar, Sept. 28 -- Jammu & Kashmir Assembly witnessed a stormy day as the House passed the resolution seeking the immediate restoration of full statehood to J&K amid strong protests and a walkout by BJP legislators.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah defended the resolution and questioned the Centre over the timeline for restoring statehood. He said Articles 370 and 35A were deliberately kept out of the resolution to avoid turning the vote into a debate on special status.
BJP legislators opposed the resolution, calling its references to autonomy and the pre-1953 position unacceptable. Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma termed the resolution a violation of the Constitution.
