Srinagar, July 31 -- Srinagar- The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for vehicular traffic on Friday to facilitate widening and debris clearance works, while the annual Amarnath Yatra was suspended from the Baltal route due to bad weather and track repair work.

Officials said the 250-km highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was closed after a batch of around 1,600 Amarnath pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for the holy cave shrine in the early hours.

According to a traffic advisory, the movement of all vehicles was suspended between Jakheni in Udhampur and the Navyug Tunnel in Banihal to allow the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake widening of the carriageway...
