Srinagar, Oct. 6 -- The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Centre and the Union Territory of Ladakh on a writ petition filed by Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) and seeking his immediate release.

A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria did not pass any order on her plea seeking the grounds of detention and posted the matter for hearing on October 14. "Something has been done for now," the bench noted.

Wangchuk was detained on September 26, two days after violent protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status left four people dead and 90 injured. Authorities alleged he incited the unrest. He is currently ...
