Srinagar, Aug. 8 -- Srinagar- Electricity consumers in Jammu and Kashmir could see higher power bills in the coming financial year, with the Union Territory's two power distribution utilities proposing a five per cent hike in tariff across all consumer categories for 2026-27.

The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) have submitted separate petitions before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for J&K and Ladakh, seeking a five per cent increase in the basic tariff.

The proposed revision is subject to the Commission's approval, with JERC having already conducted public hearings on the petitions and expected to take a final call on the matter.
