Srinagar, July 31 -- Srinagar- A Special Court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Anantnag on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh after convicting him for possessing and transporting a commercial quantity of Codeine Phosphate-based cough syrup in a case registered by Police Station Srigufwara.

Special Judge (NDPS) Imran Hussain Wani sentenced Ubaid Amin Bhat, a resident of Kanelwan, after holding him guilty under Section 8 read with Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985 in FIR No. 81/2023. The court, however, acquitted him of charges under Sections 3/181 and 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
