Srinagar, Aug. 10 -- New Delhi- The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday directed all states and Union Territories to ensure that paper National Flags used during important national, cultural and sports events are not discarded or thrown on the ground after the events.

In a communication to the Chief Secretaries and UT Administrators, the MHA said the National Flag represents the hopes and aspirations of the people and should always occupy a position of honour.

The ministry said paper flags may be waved by the public during important national, cultural and sports events, but they should be disposed of privately after the event in a manner consistent with the dignity of the flag.
