Srinagar, June 26 -- Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday joined the Ashura gathering here as thousands of Shia mourners participated in the procession on the tenth day of the Islamic month Muharram, officials said.

SInha joined the Ashura procession at Zadibal in Srinagar, where he paid rich tributes to the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions.

The Lieutenant Governor participated in the solemn procession and was presented with a black armband by mourners as a mark of respect during the observance of Youm-e-Ashura.

Later, Sinha offered a chaddar to Zuljinah at Zadibal, joining thousands of mourners participating in the traditional Ashura rituals.
