Srinagar, Aug. 4 -- Srinagar- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday unveiled an ambitious plan to revive Jammu and Kashmir as one of India's premier golf destinations, announcing that the government will work towards making the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) event an annual fixture, establish a golf academy and strengthen sports infrastructure to promote high-value tourism.

Speaking after inaugurating the four-day J&K Open 2026 DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) at the Royal Springs Golf Course, Omar said golf tourism forms an important pillar of the government's broader tourism strategy.

"Kashmir must reclaim its position as one of India's premier golf destinations," he said.
