Srinagar, April 30 -- Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has approved a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners, taking it from 58 percent to 60 percent with effect from January 1, 2026.

Sources said the decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held earlier this week, providing relief to employees and retirees amid rising costs.

In a key policy move, the Cabinet also approved the unification of "The Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act" and "The Jammu & Kashmir Self-Reliant Cooperatives Act" into a single, consolidated legislation.
