Srinagar, June 18 -- Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly's Committee on Environment on Thursday called for stringent measures to curb plastic pollution across the Union Territory, urging the government to impose a comprehensive ban on plastic, particularly single-use plastic.

The committee, chaired by MLA Kulgam M.Y. Tarigami, expressed concern over the increasing use of plastic and its adverse impact on public health, water bodies and the region's fragile ecosystem.

In a statement, Tarigami appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to consider issuing an executive order banning plastic across Jammu and Kashmir in the interest of environmental protection, public health and sustainable development.
