Srinagar, Aug. 3 -- Srinagar- Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was suspended on Monday evening after incessant rainfall rendered a stretch of the road in Udhampur district unsafe, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded and prompting authorities in Rajouri to issue a flood advisory for residents living in vulnerable areas.

Officials said traffic on the strategic highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was halted around 5 pm after continuous rain turned a stretch near Dawal Bridge in Samroli area of Udhampur muddy and slippery.

A traffic police official said vehicular movement on both carriageways was suspended as a precautionary measure.
