Srinagar, Aug. 20 -- Officials said that during a special operation, a joint team of Police and Forest officials seized nearly 300 feet of wooden logs from Bohrihalan. The timber was being stored illegally with the intention of smuggling, they said.

Soon after the recovery, an investigation was taken up to identify those involved in the illicit trade. "A case has been registered under FIR number 38/2015 under section 26 of the Forest Act. Further investigation is going on to trace the culprits," an official added.

Police said strict action will be taken against timber smugglers and those aiding the illegal practice, as it causes huge damage to forest wealth.
