Srinagar, June 29 -- Srinagar- The Kashmir Valley will continue to reel under intense heat for the next 48 hours, the Meteorological Department (MeT) said on Monday, while warning that the southwest monsoon is likely to enter Jammu and Kashmir from July 1, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to the Jammu region with the possibility of flash floods and landslides.

Director of the MeT Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said the mercury is expected to touch 38 degrees Celsius on Monday, with temperatures likely to remain between 33.5 and 34 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

"The heat will continue for the next 48 hours. There is no major weather system active for the next 40 hours, and conditions will remain on the hotter side," Ahmad said.
