Srinagar, Oct. 6 -- Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and steady rain in the plains on Monday brought a sudden chill across Kashmir, causing temperatures to plummet by nearly 10 degrees.

Officials said snowfall was reported from Sinthan Top in Anantnag, Affarwat in Gulmarg, Zojila Pass, Razdan Top in Gurez Valley, and other high-altitude areas, while Srinagar and other plains received moderate rainfall through the day.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar dropped to around 11 degree C - a sharp fall from 22.6 degree C recorded on Sunday - as overcast skies and persistent showers gripped the Valley.
