India, Oct. 29 -- Senior Advocate Tabasum Zafar has become the first Kashmiri woman lawyer to be recommended for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with the Supreme Court Collegium approving her name along with those of eight other advocates.

The decision was taken at a Collegium meeting held on October 29, according to a statement issued by the Supreme Court Collegium.

The nine advocates recommended for appointment are Vishal Sharma, Vikram Kumar Sharma, Namgyal Wangchuk, Pawan Kumar Kundal, Tahir Majid Shamsi, Tabasum Zafar, Amit Gupta, Pranav Kohli and Anupam Raina.

Zafar's recommendation marks a significant milestone for women's representation in the higher judiciary in Jammu and Kashmir.
