Experts Urge Safety Measures to Prevent Walnut Harvest Deaths
Srinagar, Sept. 3 -- Srinagar- As walnut harvesting begins across Kashmir, experts have raised concerns over the recurring accidents involving falls from tall walnut trees, warning that traditional harvesting practices can lead to serious injuries, permanent disabilities and death.
The harvesting season, particularly in August and September, often sees workers climb considerable heights and stand on branches while using long poles to knock down walnuts. Unstable branches, inadequate footwear and the absence of protective equipment further increase the risk of falls.
