Drug Seizures in J&K Drop to 4,977 Kg in 2024, Convictions Rise
Srinagar, Aug. 11 -- Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a sharp decline in the quantity of drugs seized in 2024, with recoveries falling to 4,977.21 kg from more than 17,000 kg in 2022, even as the number of convictions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act increased significantly, according to the latest data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The figures were provided by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in a written reply to Lok Sabha members M K Raghavan and Adv Adoor Prakash.
According to the data, J&K recorded seizures of 17,192.409 kg of drugs in 2022, which declined to 11,358.528 kg in 2023 and further to 4,977.21 kg in 2024.
