Amarnath Yatra Resumes After One-Day Halt
Srinagar, Aug. 6 -- Srinagar- The annual Amarnath Yatra resumed on Thursday after remaining suspended for a day due to heightened security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir on the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
Officials said the 28th batch of pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu at around 2:45 am for the Baltal base camp under tight security.
A total of 1,801 pilgrims, including 1,347 men, 351 women, 89 sadhus and 14 sadhvis, travelled in a convoy of 74 vehicles. No convoy was dispatched on the traditional Pahalgam route, officials said.
With the latest batch, the total number of pilgrims who have departed from the Jammu base camp for this year's pilgrimage has reached 1,43,513.
