The day of recollection in Kashmir brought women and girls together through poetry, art and discussion.

Schoolgirls recited Nouhas and Marsiyas. University students spoke about grief, history and social justice. Artists worked with wool, calligraphy, nails and red thread, while a young filmmaker screened a documentary on Kashmir.

The setting was the 14th edition of Mashq-e-Arba'een: Dar'ke Azadari, a nine-day community-driven exhibition and programme that has grown over a decade and a half into one of Kashmir's distinctive spaces for commemorating Ashura and Arba'een through art and literature.
