Srinagar, Aug. 1 -- Srinagar- A seven-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a boulder that rolled down a hillside during a mudslide near his school in the Mawer area of north Kashmir's Handwara on Saturday, officials said.

The incident occurred during the lunch break when a boulder dislodged from an adjacent hillside amid a mudslide and struck the child outside the school premises.

The boy was immediately rushed to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Qalamabad, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased was identified as Rehan Ahmad, son of Reyaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Khudi village in Mawer. He was a nursery student.

The incident triggered grief across the area, with locals expressing shock over the tragedy.
