Srinagar, Aug. 26 -- Srinagar- Six people, including two women, were killed and three others injured when a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ditch in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

The accident occurred around 5.30 pm in Seri Chouhana village in the Sheldhar area of Surankote when the driver of a Maruti Eeco lost control of the vehicle while it was heading towards the village, they said.

"An unfortunate accident occurred this evening, resulting in on-the-spot death of six persons and injuries to three others," Poonch Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma said.

A rescue operation was launched immediately and the injured were rushed to the district hospital, officials said.
