Srinagar, April 16 -- New Delhi- The government on Thursday introduced three key pieces of legislation in the Lok Sabha aimed at modifying the existing women's reservation framework and initiating a fresh delimitation exercise, triggering a sharp political debate in the House.
The most significant among them, the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, was introduced after a division of votes, with 251 members supporting its introduction and 185 opposing it. The Bill seeks to amend provisions related to the implementation of the women's quota in legislatures and is tied to a proposed expansion and redrawing of constituencies ahead of the 2029 general elections.
