Srinagar, Aug. 4 -- Srinagar- Eighteen houses were damaged after land sinking was reported in Ari Sarhotti village of Mendhar area in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Tuesday, prompting authorities to shift around 100 residents to safer places, officials said.

The affected families were evacuated as a precautionary measure following the incident, they said.

The tehsil administration visited the spot and began assessing the damage caused to the residential structures.

Tehsildar Mendhar Rahul Basotra confirmed the damage and said revenue and other concerned teams were on the ground to assess the situation.

A detailed assessment of the losses is underway, officials said.
