India, March 12 -- National Conference (NC) president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said he initially mistook the gunshot fired during a wedding function in Jammu for a firecracker, stating that his security personnel acted promptly and averted any serious incident.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Dr Abdullah said the incident occurred when he was leaving the wedding venue after attending the function.
"I had gone to attend a wedding. When the bride arrived, we took permission and left for home. As I came out of the hall, I heard a loud sound and thought it was a firecracker, as such things often happen at weddings," he said.
He said he was later informed that a man had fired from a pistol. ...
