Srinagar, May 8 -- The Union government has vested the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir with powers to act under provisions of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, during situations concerning public safety and emergencies in the Union Territory.
The decision was notified through a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to the notification, the President, under Article 239(1) of the Constitution, has authorised the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to perform the functions of the state government under Section 20(2) of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, until further orders.
