New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, introducing higher renewal charges for vehicles that are more than 20 years old. The new regulations, titled the Central Motor Vehicles (Third Amendment) Rules, 2025, take immediate effect following their publication in the Official Gazette.Under the amended rules, vehicles older than two decades from the date of first registration will attract significantly higher renewal fees. The renewal charge for motorcycles has been fixed at Rs.2,000, three-wheelers or quadricycles at Rs.5,000, and light motor vehicles at Rs.10,000.Imported vehicles will draw much higher fees-Rs.20,000 for two- and three-wheelers, and ...
