Srinagar, Sept. 5 -- With Kashmir's fruit season nearing its peak, the Directorate of Horticulture Planning and Marketing on Saturday held a stakeholder consultation in Srinagar to expand the use of railway freight and Roll-on-Roll-off (Ro-Ro) services for transporting horticultural produce to markets across the country.Around 25,000 metric tonnes of apples were transported by rail from Kashmir during the previous season, according to the department, highlighting the growing role of railways as an alternative to road transport.The meeting, held at Rajbagh under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, was attended by representatives of Northern Railway, the Horticulture Department, fruit and ...
