Nigeria, Feb. 5 -- Oba Simeon Ibiyinka Olaonipekun, the monarch of Aafin Ile Ire in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom after months in captivity.

The traditional ruler was abducted by suspected bandits in December 2025 alongside his son. His son was later released after a ransom of n20 million was reportedly paid, while the monarch remained in the kidnappers' custody.

It was gathered that Oba Olaonipekun was finally freed on Thursday morning following the payment of an additional n12 million to the abductors. The ransom was said to have been raised through contributions from members of the community and private individuals.
