Nigeria, Aug. 24 -- A commercial building, consisting of nine shops on Sunday gutted by fire at Joseph Duntoye Street, Tipper Garage, Tanke Area, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.

It was gathered that the inferno, which occurred at exactly 1:12 pm., was caused by a power surge, causing serious damage one shop at the building.

Confirming the incident in a statement released by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said timely response of the Fire Service prevented the "fire from spreading to the remaining shops in the building and adjoining structures, thereby saving valuable properties from destruction."
