Dhaka, June 1 -- Veteran Bangladeshi politician and one of the key organisers of the 1969 Mass Uprising and the Liberation War, Tofail Ahmed, passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital. He was 81.

Family members confirmed that he died at around 3:30 pm. His son-in-law, Dr Touhiduzzaman Tuhin, said Tofail Ahmed breathed his last while receiving treatment at the hospital.

According to relatives and close associates, he had been suffering from several age-related health complications for a long time. He is survived by a daughter and numerous admirers and well-wishers.
