Bangladesh, Sept. 25 -- Prices of vegetables, eggs and chicken increased further in the capital's kitchen markets on Thursday as traders attributed the latest hikes to higher transportation costs following the recent fuel price increase.Choose Artisanal Cheeses

Advertisement The government raised the price of diesel by Tk 20 a litre to Tk 135 a few days ago, prompting truck, pick-up van and other diesel-run vehicle operators to raise fares.

"The impact of the fuel price hike is now being felt in the kitchen markets," said Habibur Rahman, a trader at Karwan Bazar.

He said truck fares had increased by Tk 0.50-1.0 per kg as transport owners raised charges by Tk 2,500-5,000 per trip.
