Dhaka, Aug. 14 -- A Union Parishad chairman has been arrested in connection with the looting of sand and stone from Sylhet's famed tourist spot,'Sada Pathar'.

Companiganj Police Station chief Uzayer Mahmud Adnan said Alamgir Alam, the chairman of Purbo Islampur Union Parishad, was apprehended by the Detective Branch (DB) from his home in the Upazila Sadar early Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, a joint force has started an operation to recover the stones looted from the Sada Pathar tourist spot, reports bdnews24.com.

The operation began around 10:00 pm on Wednesday and continued all night in several locations. During these raids, 130 trucks loaded with stone were seized.
