Dhaka, June 4 -- Six people, including a girl and two women, have been killed in separate lightning strikes in Chapainawabganj, sending shockwaves among locals.

The deaths were reported in Sadar, Shibganj, and Nachol Upazilas on Thursday afternoon, police said, bdnews24.com reports.

A 17-year-old boy, identified only as Abdullah, died in Sadar Upazila

Abdullah was bringing a cow back from a field during rain when lightning struck him, leaving him critically injured, said Sadar Model Police chief Ekramul Hossain.

Locals rushed him to Chapainawabganj District Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. The cow also died in the incident.

Sadia Khatun, 16, Mahmuda Akhter, 19, and Md Mesbaul, 14, died in Shibganj Upazila.
