Dhaka, Feb. 10 -- Surayya Akhtar Jahan has been appointed as administrator of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) after the government decided not to renew the one-year contract of Mohammad Azaz.

The appointment of Mr. Surayya, an Additional Secretary at the Local Government Division, was made through a gazette notification issued on Monday.

Mr. Azaz was appointed as the DNCC administrator on a full-time basis on 9 February last year for a one-year term.

In a press release, Md Alamgir Hossain, Public Relations officer of the ministry, said Mr. Azaz had not been removed from the post, rather he will be relieved of his duties upon completion of his tenure.

Surayya is scheduled to assume her new responsibility on 11 February.
