Dhaka, Feb. 8 -- Primary and secondary schools and colleges across Bangladesh will be closed for five consecutive days surrounding the 13th parliamentary election and referendum.

Technical education institutions will also be closed for five days, while the break will lead into the Ramadan and Eid holidays for madrasa students, bdnews24.com reports.

The general election is set to be held on Thursday, February 12.

The government has declared general holidays for Wednesday, the day before the vote, and election day. Friday and Saturday then fall on the weekend, meaning that all educational institutions will be closed for those four days.
