Dhaka, Nov. 2 -- Assistant teachers at the government primary schools threatened on Saturday to go for nationwide work abstention and sit-in programmes if their long-standing demands of pay grades and promotions were not realised by November 15.

They under the banner of Primary Assistant Teachers Organisation Oikya Parishad made the announcement at a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital.

President of the Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers' Society Md Anisur Rahman said that they would observe a half-day work abstention on November 23 and 24, full-day strike on November 25 and 26, and sit-in in front of the Primary Education Directorate on November 27 if their three point-demand was not met by November 15.
