Dhaka, Oct. 27 -- A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a speeding truck on the Jashore-Khulna highway in the Padmabila area on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Gautam Roy, son of Gyanendra Roy, a resident of Pachakuri village under Monirampur upazila.

Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of Noapara Highway Police Station, said the accident occurred around 9:00 am while Gautam was walking along the side of the highway in the Padmabila area of the district.

Gautam was rushed to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctor on duty declared them dead.

Police said the body has been sent to Jashore General Hospital for an autopsy. Efforts are underway to identify the truck and its driver.
