Dhaka, Aug. 17 -- Mongla Port, the second largest seaport of the country, can reduce the container handling time of Chittagong Port to an international standard.

Container unloading at the Chittagong Port is taking 5 to 6 days, which is 1 or 2 days are global standard, says BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan.

He said, "Often, we send goods by air to keep the commitment with the buyer, which is four times higher cost than seaway."

The BGMEA leader said that Chittagong port needs to come up to international standards.

He made the remark at a roundtable titled "Challenges, Opportunities, and Way Forward in Shipping & Logistics Landscape" on Sunday.
