Dhaka, Aug. 7 -- A journalist was hacked to death in Gazipur on Thursday night, hours after livestreaming a video alleging extortion from street vendors.

Md Asaduzzaman Tuhin, 38, a staff reporter for Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, was attacked around 8:30pm in the Chandana Chowrasta area. He was originally from Bhatipara village in Fulbaria, Mymensingh.

Police said five to six men chased Tuhin with sharp weapons and attacked him inside a tea shop where he had taken shelter. A video of the incident later circulated online.

Eyewitness Khairul Islam said three attackers entered his shop and hacked the journalist to death, while two others stood guard outside with machetes. "People watched but no one intervened," he said.
